International Women's day is a day of recognition and celebration of women globally. It’s the only day of the year that recognises the value that women bring to societies and showcases the incredible struggles of women who have paved the way for others.
Gender diversity in the workplace produces real benefits. It’s good for financial returns, employee engagements and innovation. Gender diversity can also help businesses resonate with a wider customer base. At Shredall SDS Group we have a total of 27 women with ages ranging from 16 – 65.
“I believe diversity in the workplace is key to a successful business. The gender pay gap is very much a current issue. At Shredall SDS Group, we see the juggle working mothers experience to achieve in their career whilst managing a family. Culturally, I think we have the right balance of correct pay and flexible hours - our ladies are achieving great results.
This industry is male dominated, yet we have one female board member, four in senior management roles and 27 in our whole team with more coming through the ranks.
When women challenge stereotypes, believe in their own ability and support each other, great things can happen. “ Lucy Shipley, Group Director
What being a women means to us...
“I think being a female means you have to live up to a certain standard. People expect you to act a certain way and wear certain clothes. There are stereotypes associated with females and how females are supposed to be or act. It’s important to surround yourself with inspirational women who support and empower each other. Remember to always be kind and supportive no matter the gender or race” Kayleigh, Marketing Executive
“Being a woman to me is just be yourself and be the true you” Maria, London Account Manager
Women who inspire us…
“Historically, I know I’m inspired by those women who picked up their banners and campaigned for our right to vote. I’m very mindful of this every time elections are held – and no matter what I’m thinking politically, I have a sense of duty to use my vote. However, I’m also inspired by women ‘closer to home’. My Mum for her tireless and selfless support to her family and my Sister for her endless compassion and amazing contribution to nursing. Together, they’ve set me a very high bar!” Carole, Group Compliance Manager & Data Protection Officer
“Emmaline Pankhurst- Lots of women inspire me, most of them would be friends / colleagues that aren’t necessarily well known or famous all the mothers doing the ‘mother juggle’ all women ‘keeping it together’ holding down a job, raising a family, having friends, having a social life (trying)” Accounts Team
“My little woman inspires me, my 1-year old daughter Lily-Mae. She is courageous, intelligent, loving, and funny. She is a happy little woman who inspires me to laugh when she laughs, to smile when she smiles. She reminds me to be happy with the simple things in life. She inspires me to be best I can be, for her.” Emma, Accounts Assistant
Happy International Womens Day! Remember to create sustainable and healthy economies we must empower women and break down barriers that discriminate. No matter what industry, we can implement policies to fight gender discrimination and encourage diversity in any business.
