Paper shredding services costs

The cost of paper shredding services vary depending on the type of service you have.

Regular collection service shredding costs

A regular scheduled shredding collection means that a shredding company will collect your confidential waste on your desired date, usually on a daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.

This type of shredding service typically costs between £550 - £750 (+VAT) for the year. This average is based on the idea of the company getting a  monthly collection. If the frequency is to increase, the cost of the service will likely increase. We discuss this further in the ‘factors that influence the cost’ section of this blog.

One off service shredding costs

A one off shredding service incurs a different cost due to the absence of a long-term service contract, which typically offers better rates for recurring services.

This type of shredding service typically costs from £125 (+VAT) per service. This is based on the idea that this is an average service, with an average volume of data to shred. With a higher amount of data, the cost can increase here.

Confidential waste shredding costs

Aside from paper shredding, there are also options to shred other confidential data such as textiles, hard drives and IT & media. This price is different to paper shredding costs as it requires a different type of

Hard drive destruction costs can vary from £150 per service, or £12 per hard drive minimum, depending on the volume of data; textiles, IT & media, and other secure data destruction can align with the same costs. It’s important to get a quote from your potential service provider to find out the exact cost.

Factors that influence the cost of shredding

The above shredding services costs aren’t fixed, as prices can vary greatly depending on the company you choose for your service, as well as the unique requirements of your business. Let’s take a look at some of those factors.

1. Volume of documents

The amount of confidential waste that you want shredding will impact the cost significantly. Shredding companies will either cost a service by the volume (amount of confidential waste sacks filled), or by the weight of the waste to be shredded.

Large businesses generate a lot more waste than small businesses, resulting in them having a higher secure shredding cost.

2. Service frequency

The service frequency will also impact the cost. When using a scheduled shredding service, you can choose your collections to be daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Depending on the increased needs of your shredding service, this will increase the price.

3. On-site vs off-site shredding

The location on which the shredding service takes place will also impact the cost. You can choose to have shredding service on-site or off-site

On-site means that a mobile van will arrive at your facility to conduct the shredding, whilst off-site means that your data will be taken to a secure facility. On-site shredding is typically cheaper, as providers are able to plan a route that’s convenient, ahead of time.

4. Security containers

Something that businesses often don’t factor into their paper shredding service costs are the receptacles needed to house their confidential data. This is a cost that’s only incurred when you’re needing regular collections.

5. Compliance

Selecting a shredding provider can also influence the cost, as some providers, such as Shredall SDS Group, are more compliant with industry standards, potentially affecting pricing.

If you’re choosing to shred your data confidentially, compliance should be of the utmost importance to you. And that’s why it’s important to us too! To understand how we uphold the highest standards in confidential waste management, we invite you to review our compliance accreditations

6. Contaminated waste

If the waste you’d like to shred is contaminated, such as water logged or damaged, this will incur a slightly higher charge. This is due to the fact that the confidential paper can’t be recycled.

7. Add on services

Combining different information management services can lead to a reduction in the price of the individual service, although obviously the overall price will increase. For example, if you combine a document scanning and shredding service, the cost per service will be slightly reduced. Again, this can vary between providers.
