Our Marketing & PR manager Charlotte and her close friend Katie will be cycling from London to Paris for the duration of a gruelling three and a half days to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.
Biking approximately 300 miles in 3.5 days, starting in the heart of London on their first day, they will cycle to Dover and get the ferry to Calais. From Calais they will have 2 intense days of cycling through hilly French countryside where they will end their challenge just behind the Eiffel Tower. This will be the hardest thing they have ever done but won’t come close to what their chosen charity does on a daily basis.
The chosen charity- Bowel Cancer UK
In April this year Charlotte’s Dad went for a colonoscopy and found a few polyps in his colon, unfortunately one was cancerous.
“I was at work expecting my dad to say everything is fine it’s just a check-up… I was in total shock”- Charlotte Williams, Marketing and PR Manager at Shredall SDS Group.
Charlotte continues - “you hear the word cancer all of the time, but you never think it will happen to you and your family! My dad has had a lot of health issues in the past- a heart valve replacement, an infection in his stomach, pneumonia twice, kidney and blood problems, which means his visits to the doctors are weekly, but despite the ongoing health issues he never stops being the life and soul of any party, the hardest worker and the best friend and father I could ask for.
My dad is lucky; his cancer is contained and hopefully treatable, he is having an operation this week to remove the tumour and fingers crossed eradicate it”
Both Charlotte and Katie are up for the challenge with Katie failing once before to make it to the Eiffel Tower, she is even more determined to make it to the finish line this time and raise as much sponsorship as possible. Charlotte is currently training for the challenge with this being her first ever physical charity challenge and hasn’t ridden a bike properly since the age of 9.
“I’ve always wanted to do something for charity but have had the excuse of having two children under the age of 4 to actually do anything until now. I may be the slowest, I may ache in places I never knew existed, but I want to raise as much money as possible for a cancer charity that is saving my dad’s life and to have the support from Katie who I known since I was two is incredible” – Charlotte Williams
