The Shredall SDS Group donated 1 tonne of cardboard to The Big Sleep Out, an event run across the 18th and 19th of November to raise money for Framework, a Nottingham-based charity dedicated to tackling homelessness.
The event, which was also supported by the likes of the Nottingham Forest Community Trust and The Nottingham Building Society, raised over £20,000 that will help fund an outreach nurse, who provides healthcare and support for homeless people with major health concerns.
The Big Sleep Out was attended by more than 200 volunteers, who slept outside in the Forest Sports Zone north of the city centre. The tonne of cardboard donated by the Shredall SDS Group was all the volunteers had to sleep on (or under) as they recreated the conditions that homeless people across the country have to endure in the coldest months of the year.
Nik Williams, the Shredall SDS Group’s sales director, commented on the importance of supporting events like the Big Sleep Out:
“As a family-run business, we feel a strong personal connection to Nottingham, the city where Shredall SDS started and where our head office is based. We love getting the opportunity to help with local events like Framework’s Big Sleep Out.
“Homelessness in Nottingham is a real issue that can’t be ignored. When we have the opportunity to use some of our resources to help with a cause like this, we want to take it. It looks like the Big Sleep Out was a success and I am proud that the Shredall SDS Group was able to be a part of that, however small.”
