Hundreds of thousands of elderly people spend Christmas alone each and every year, not talking to a single soul unless people give them a call or invite them for Christmas dinner, which can often lead to depression, anxiety and loneliness.
Here at Shredall SDS Group, we believe that nobody should be forgotten about at Christmas. So this year we have decided to reignite the Christmas spirit at our local community care facility, Hawthorne Nursing Home.
The idea is small but the impact can be huge. We have bought each resident a present this Christmas, which we will deliver in-person at their annual Christmas party. Some of the residents have no family and get no visitors, so our contribution will give them some company this festive season.
Offering our expertise to the local community
Many of the residents housed in Hawthorne Nursing Home lived and worked in the Nottingham area, spending years contributing to the vibrant community we live and work in. Our aim is to give back and show our appreciation for their excellent contributions over the years, contributions that allow us to make a difference.
We are also providing some of our own expertise to the care home too. We are delivering a cardboard waste bin and shredding bin to ensure they can securely shred paper and cardboard waste.
Making a difference this Christmas
Shredall SDS Group will be heading to Hawthorne Nursing Home in December, bringing a wide range of exciting festive activities along with them, such as carol singing, dancing and, most importantly, mince pies. We will also be spending time with each resident whether it’s having a cup of tea or taking them out for a short trip into the countryside. We will also be providing manicures for some of the ladies.
Our support doesn’t just end with the Christmas party. Starting in January we will be visiting the care home every fortnight to spend time with residents, help out in their community garden and get involved in a variety of activities to support residents and the brilliant carers who look after them.
Everyone can make a difference - simply checking in on an elderly neighbour regularly, popping a card through their door or having a chat with an older person at the shops, it only takes a moment and can make a real difference this festive period.
From everyone at Shredall SDS Group - have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
