Taking Part in Sustainability Days 2023

Taking Part in Sustainability Days 2023

Now more than ever, it’s crucial that we take time to understand our impact on the environment. And taking part in sustainability days such as Earth Day and Global Recycling Day is one of the best ways to raise global awareness. Read on to find out how we’ve done our bit to help the planet, and the upcoming sustainability days you or your business can get involved in.

Our environmental support initiatives: becoming carbon neutral & COP26

At Shredall SDS Group, we pride ourselves in being experts in shredding, recycling and the environment by sharing our knowledge. We have a strong environmental commitment and are constantly looking for ways we can contribute to a greener future through our business.

Most recently, we’ve been verified carbon neutral. Recognised by an independent third party (NQA) in accordance with PAS 2060:2014, we were thrilled to be confirmed as a carbon neutral company at the end of 2022. Becoming carbon neutral and participating in carbon offsetting is a fantastic way companies can raise awareness and reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.

In 2021, we had the pleasure of supporting sustainability targets for COP26. Shredall SDS Group collected and recycled the volunteer uniforms on behalf of COP26 using our textile shredding procedure. Working with a partnered facility, we then produced electricity using the material from the uniforms via a solid recovered fuel (SRF) process. Amazing work!

Upcoming sustainability days 2023

There are many different sustainability days across the year, both nationally and globally. Here are a few of the most notable days coming up soon:

Global Recycling Day - March 18th

Today is Global Recycling Day, and the theme this year is ‘creative innovation’. Recycling is a crucial part of the climate change cycle, and helps to protect and promote global sustainability. Throughout the pandemic, recycling has been acknowledged as a crucial resource for the supply of raw materials. So no matter how small the contribution, supporting recycling on this day is incredibly important.

Earth Day - April 22nd

On April 22nd, we celebrate Earth Day. This annual celebration is designed to raise awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources, and honours achievements so far in the effort to save the planet. There are so many ways you can Take Action on Earth Day, from setting up your own clean up to simply making a donation to the cause.

Environment Day - June 5th

The theme for this years World Environment Day is #BeatPlasticPollution. 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, and 19-23 million tonnes of that ends up in aquatic ecosystems. And with microplastics finding their way into our food and drinking water, it's important we raise awareness and showcase the people, businesses and countries that are pushing for plastic pollution to be a part of history.

Recycling Week - September 2023

This year’s Recycling Week is taking place from the 19th - 25th of September. It’s an important week that reminds us of the importance of recycling, raises awareness about the value of recycling and gives us a chance to expand our knowledge about how to innovatively recycle.

Particularly for younger generations, teaching them how recycling works, and how they can get involved is critical, as it’s one of the biggest issues they’ll face in their lifetime. Last recycling week, we got involved by visiting Hawthorne Primary School and teaching the children about the paper recycling process through fun activities.

Announcing our recycling week tour 2023

We’re excited to announce that this year our recycling week tour will be even bigger. Starting this spring, we’re going to be travelling around several schools around the country to educate children on the importance of recycling, how our paper recycling process works and how they can think about their own recycling at home.

Recycling week is a great initiative to be a part of, and we hope that our action in helping to teach kids around the UK about paper recycling will help them to think about recycling for years to come. We’ll even be taking our on-site shredding lorries to demonstrate how we recycle confidential paper–certainly a day they won’t forget!

How you can do your bit for the planet

These environmental events and sustainability days across the year are a great way to get involved in helping the planet, the environment and ultimately helping to tackle climate change. Whether you’re a business owner or individual, getting involved will help to educate, raise awareness and make a real difference to your local community.

From setting up a litter clean up in your local park with colleagues, to finding unique and innovative ways your family can recycle non-recyclable products, there are many brilliant ways you can do your bit this year.

We’re proud that every year we get to participate in these sustainability days as a business, from cleaning up our local green spaces to simply ensuring that 100% of our paper waste is recycled.
